Inspector General of Police (IGP) Said Mwema said in his remarks that the donated van would facilitate speeding up investigation of crime when it is deployed at the crime scene.“The donated van is fitted with investigation equipment enabling investigators to gather some crucial pieces of information on the spot,” he said.

“In many crime scenes the number of issues to be investigated crop up, including the identity of the victim, circumstantial evidence, the manner in which the crime was committed and the criminals themselves,” the IGP noted.

The van will also help provide watertight evidence for crimes in court, hence criminals fail to get off the hook for lack of evidence against them, he stated. Special equipment such as camera, storage kits, computer and additional capacities the IGP did not list for security reasons would help the police identify criminals’ identities more rapidly.

The IGP urged the society to keep cooperating with the police in providing information on crimes, including the perpetrators of any specific incident.

He said Turkey and Tanzania have signed several cooperation agreements, a sign of friendship between the two countries. A memorandum was signed on criminal investigation cooperation yesterday, the IGP indicated.

About 21 Tanzanian police officers went to the Turkish police academy while those from Turkey came to Tanzania for exchanging experiences in criminal investigation and enhancing ties.Home Affairs permanent secretary Mwamini Malemi said the memorandum of understand between Tanzania and Turkey police forces will enable professional investigation on crime, to avoid the closing of case which failed to be substantiated enough for court conviction.

“The knowledge that Tanzanian police officers obtained from Turkey will help to increase expertise in investigations,” the top ministerial executive noted.

“Turkey helped our officers by demonstrating updated techniques of investigation and how they handle the investigation process using improved equipment,” she elaborated.Robert Manumba, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), said that the van will be used effectively by police officers as it will simplify their effortsto catch the suspect.
